Dakota Awards Inc. began as a family project in
1982. All four of the Townsend children were involved in BMX bicycle racing.
Bill and Alva traveled with their racers Bob, Dick, Billy and Becky throughout
the upper mid-west racing in North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska,
Colorado, Wyoming, Montana and north to Saskatchewan and Manitoba in
Canada. The demand for trophies and awards in youth sports looked like an excellent business opportunity, and a great chance for the family to work together as a "business team" as well as a "racing team". "In the Beginning" trophies were assembled in the garage, engraving took place on the dining room table, the bookkeeping took place in the kitchen and we delivered trophies to the events the kids raced in. Over the past twenty-five years, Dakota Awards Inc. has grown to be one of the largest manufacturers of Awards and Recognition Products in the Northern Plains. We serve clients from New York to California. Our 8000 square foot facility is equipped with the latest technology in the awards industry, and our showroom is indeed a showcase of awards.
